FROM BARE METAL
TO THE BROWSER

Hi, I'm Driss, a systems and fullstack developer trained at 42 Paris — a peer-to-peer curriculum with no lectures, just problems and code reviews. That environment taught me something essential: understand the system before touching it. Read the source code. Know what happens when you hit enter.

I work across different technologies: from low-level C — concurrency, networking, raw sockets, or C++ — through modern fullstack web (Vue, Nuxt, TypeScript, Fastify), to infrastructure — I manage the DNS, mail stack, and security policies myself on a self-hosted Debian server for this portfolio.

Whether building a real-time WebSocket system, hardening Nginx with ModSecurity, or writing multithreaded C, I want to understand every line. It's not isolated expertise — it's systems thinking: knowing that HTTP headers matter when you've written low-level socket code, understanding performance because you've worked at the low level, appreciating security because you've audited configurations.

If you need someone who doesn't just write code but understands why it works, from silicon to browser — that's me.

42 Curriculum

2026

ft_transcendence

Capstone project (last of the common core) — real-time chat SPA. Fastify/TypeScript backend, Fastify/React frontend, Redis Pub/Sub, Prisma/SQLite, HashiCorp Vault for secrets, Nginx with ModSecurity WAF.

2025

ft_irc

Multi-client IRC server in C++98, RFC-compliant, built on non-blocking sockets and I/O multiplexing (poll).

2025

Inception

Docker Compose infrastructure — Nginx, WordPress, MariaDB, each service in its own hardened container.

2025

C++ Modules 00-09

OOP, inheritance, polymorphism, templates, STL containers — the C++98 track end to end.

2025

NetPractice

IP subnetting and network configuration — CIDR, subnet masks, routing between interconnected machines.

2025

cub3D

First-person raycasting engine in C — vector math, texture mapping, a leak-free renderer validated with Valgrind.

2025

minishell

A working UNIX shell — parsing, built-ins, process control via fork/execve/waitpid, signal handling.

2024

Philosophers

Dining philosophers problem — multithreading, mutexes, deadlock avoidance, precise timing in C.

2024

minitalk, push_swap, so_long

UNIX signals and IPC, sorting algorithm optimization, and a small 2D game engine to introduce a MLX library.

2024

Born2beRoot

First system administration project — Debian hardening, LVM, UFW, sudo policies, monitoring script.

2024

ft_printf, get_next_line

Reimplemented printf-family formatting and a line-by-line file reader in C — first real exercise in variadic functions, buffering, and static memory across multiple calls.

2024

Libft

Rebuilt core C standard library functions from scratch — first real contact with memory management and modular C.

Beyond the Curriculum

Self-Hosted Portfolio

Nuxt 4 app containerized with Docker and deployed via GitHub Actions (SSH) on a Debian server running ISPConfig (Nginx, Postfix/Dovecot with DKIM/SPF/DMARC, delegated DNS).

Secondary DNS service

Designed a three-VPS PowerDNS architecture (MySQL backend, dnsdist with rate limiting) for the self-hosted community, with Ansible provisioning and Prometheus/Grafana monitoring, project idea in progress.
